    You get gestational diabetes. :)

I’m the creator of DiabeticMommy.com, a site for women with all types of diabetes, but we reach out especially to women with gestational diabetes. Check out the forum!

When I was pregnant, I didn’t really seek out "diabetic" recipes. I still don’t. I counted carbs, made it so much easier. For meals I had 30 g of carbs (or two servings) and for snacks I had 15 grams (or one serving). Of course, the amount of carbs you can have will be tailored to you, and a dietitian should tell you how many you can have.

Anyway, when I did it that way I didn’t have to seek out special recipes, I could eat whatever, just had to keep an eye on the carbs.

And I also tried to have a serving of protein with each serving of carb.

So snacks could be a piece of bread with a protein (half a sandwich with lunchmeat, egg salad, grilled chicken, etc) and sandwich veggies or a salad with a serving of croutons and some chicken. I could also have tortilla wraps with some protein inside (a piece of chicken breast, cheese, slices of ham) with some greens or mustard and a pickle. Another favorite snack would be crackers and cheese.

As far as big meals I could have some bigger versions of those above, for instance a taco would be a serving of carb and protein. I could have two or I could fit in a little rice and beans…again you may be allowed a lot more carbs than I was. :)

Look at the nutrition info on labels and recipes. Some sites like http://www.Recipezaar.com give the nutrition label, plus they have diabetes recipes.

If you eat at restaurants or prepared foods, check out http://www.calorieking.com/ for carb counts.

    Good luck!!
