It really shouldn’t impact your lifestyle much as a friend or care giver. Type II is managed by diet, medication and exercise. Some do not follow all three, while others do. A diabetic diet is no more complicated than someone trying to watch their weight, cholesterol, or simply trying to just eat healthier. Medication is taken orally as little as once daily and some Type II diabetics don’t really even need medication at all. Exercise is helpful and can be a trip to the gym or simply walks in the neighborhood. All in all, it just promotes a more health conscious lifestyle. Once you are aware of what Type II diabetes is and how to manage it, the lifestyle is quite simple and doesn’t really affect those around. There will be times where a diabetic becomes Hypo, in which case the blood sugar is low, and needs a snack like some juice, granola bar, or candy to bring it up just a bit.

It may not affect your life style or even that of the person with diabetes either. Some people with type 2 just need to consume fewer carbohydrates. Some just take a pill. Some follow a restricted diet and take a pill. It varies greatly from person to person. So you would need to discuss the issue with the patient and his/her doctor to understand any possible special needs if you are going to be taking care of this patent's health needs.

it shouldnt make much difference to your life. it would probly be mostly watching food and exersize while keeping blood glucose levels in check.
my Family found that if we all ate the same diet wise that I wouldnt feel left out and it made it easier for them to help me out as they then understood how i ate etc.
so not making a big deal of it and trying to learn by watching and getting involved helps.
preventing it is done by watching serving sizes and carb, fat and sugar levels in the food. regular exersize is very good also.
15 grams of carbs is a serving size (to a diabetic anyway)
Treatment is usually diet control. if it goes too far it will have to be tablet controlled. or worse case scenario insulin injections. but i'd wait til that last bit gets there before worrying about that
